Albrighton & District Civic Society
held at APC Office, 82B High St, Albrighton,
on Monday 7th April 2014 at 3pm

Present :
Peter Woodman - Chairman
John Bulmer
Ron Kidson
Peter Leigh
David Thomas (ex-officio representing Boningale PC)

Apologies: Sarah Baker, Rod Smith, Mike Pitchford, Alan Wilmot, David Beechey & David Hughes.

1         Membership.  PW reported that DH has recovered from his illness, and expects to attend the next meeting. Kate Fletcher, Meetings Secretary of AAHF, has expressed a wish to join ADCS Committee and hence PW has invited her to the May meeting with a view to co-option to the Committee if other members approve this.

2        Minutes of Committee Meeting on 3rd March 2014 were approved.

3        Entrance Scheme.    JB/PW reported that they has used weed killer on both Patshull Road and Patshull Lane sites, and PW has pruned the roses. Hand weeding is programmed for 24th May.

4        Station Ramp         PW reported on the recent meeting on Station Rd with Alice Dilly of SC accompanied by a representative of the SC Consultancy (Mouchel). Two alternative schemes as proposed by ADCS members and one proposed by Mouchel (to make safe the access/egress at the foot of the ramp) are to be outlined by the Consultant and drawings provided by the month end. A further meeting chaired by Mark Pritchard MP is proposed for early May.

5        Albrighton area development planning (SAMDEV and Place Plan)        RK reported briefly on the SAMDev proposals, noting that although the SC website report was as per the final draft submitted last year, a second consultation had since taken place, resulting in changes to the original; this is also on the website as review at March 2014. In particular, the original wording of the transport policy has been retained, expressing some concern about re traffic management, but not incorporating this into a Policy Statement.
The number of properties to be built in the years to 2026 is now 250, including development at White Acres has been increased to 20, principally 1 or 2 bed units aimed at retired people, and 180 in the “white land” east of Shaw Lane. The latter also included a high proportion of 1 or 2 bed properties, additional parking for the railway station (no mention of “land swap”), and recreation provision. In the long term, a through route from Kingswood Road to the N end of Shaw lane is proposed. However, the idea of producing a Master Plan for the white land appears to have been dropped.
Agreed that PW, RS, RK will prepare a draft response to these latest proposals.

PW would also write to Mark Pritchard stating our view that in the light of the development planned for Shifnal and Albrighton a major road will be essential to link the A464 Shifnal Rd to the M54 to avoid traffic gridlock in both Shifnal and Albrighton. This new road would have to be government funded. PW would also contact Shifnal Town Council with a view to obtaining their support. His letter Mark Pritchard to be copied to SC and Alb PC.

6        PW reported that no reply had been received from the Tattoo Parlour  - to be left in abeyance pending new ownership, and that he will write re. Albrighton Garage frontage.

7        Parish Council AGM.       A number of items which could be raised from the floor at the Parish Meeting on 24th April were discussed. PW will produce a final list and seek speakers to each.
